Winter Carnival begins in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh

One of India’s oldest, five day Manali carnival begins in Kullu.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated the popular and one of India’s oldest carnival from circuit house in Manali after offering prayers at the Hidimba Mata Temple on Wednesday.

The festival has become popular amid the foreign tourists and more than 100 Mahila Mandals had participated in the procession. Said the chief minister at the occasion.

Social causes including cow protection, women empowerment, cleanliness and environment conservation were promoted by the women groups.

The carnival is organised annually with the motive to attract tourists during winters and provide an opportunity to experience the rich culture of the state. Sufficient police personnel were deployed to maintain the law and order, said the officials.

Thakur also added that not only Himachal, but the nation needs the “visionary leadership” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for another 10 years to ensure that India becomes a great power in the world.
